The Gymnast Cartwheels to Hollywood

THE GYMNAST will get its World Premiere in Los Angeles at the groundbreaking CREDO 23 Film Festival this March.

The brainchild of actress/director Justine Bateman, the festival is “a filmmaker-first, no-AI event” that is “real, and raw.”

Alongside Bateman, the CREDO 23 Council includes actress Juliette Lewis, MAD MEN showrunner Matt Weiner, THE HANDMAID’S TALE director Reed Morano and ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD costume designer Arianne Phillips.

When launching the festival, Bateman told Deadline, “The festival honours the incredible human artists who make films, and will financially grant recourses to human filmmakers to continue to do so.”

THE GYMNAST, starring Melissa Berry, tells the story of a lonely woman who experiences a transformation after meeting a familiar stranger. It was shot entirely in camera on Super 8, to a soundtrack composed and mixed by Robin Green.

Embracing analogue techniques and guerilla filming, CREDO 23 is the perfect place for THE GYMNAST to make its debut. I’m so looking forward to introducing the screening in Hollywood and being inspired by all the other disruptive filmmakers showing their work.
