BFI NETWORK Back Madge

Posted on Nov 14, 2022 in Latest

I’m proud to announce that my feature film MADGE has been awarded Early Development Funding by BFI NETWORK’s South East Film Hub.

MADGE tells the story of Florence Madeline Syers, who changed the face of figure skating when she dared to compete in the formerly male-only singles category at the World Championships in 1902, beating all but one of her competitors.

BFI NETWORK’s Early Development Fund provides grants to new feature writers and supports them in a range of ways – from providing creative input and feedback on initial treatments and related work, to creating connections with potential collaborators, propelling projects towards the next stage of development.

Madge’s amazing story has huge contemporary resonance, with both respect for women in sport and sex divisions at competition level being hot-button topics right now. I’m beyond excited to be bringing this conversation to the screen with an impressive female lead at its centre, and with the backing of BFI NETWORK as I begin the journey to production.
