About
Born and raised in Peterborough, Julie Mayhew trained as a journalist then as an actress. When she couldn’t find enough brilliant roles for women, she started writing them for herself.
She is an award-winning novelist, an award-nominated radio dramatist and has written short stories and stage plays to critical acclaim. As an alumnus of the BFI Network x BAFTA Crew scheme and an inaugural member of BAFTA Connect, she now writes and directs for the screen. Her short films as writer/director have played at festivals across the world and she has a diverse slate of TV and feature film projects in active development.
Julie sits on the WGGB Film Committee, the Alum Committe for Stowe Story Labs, and spurred by personal experience volunteers for NACOA (the National Association for Children of Alcoholics) alongside her work for social mobility charity Brightside.
